Participants will begin by making a simple butter knife from mild steel in order to learn the processes involved in shaping a knife. Students will then progress to making a blade from a higher-carbon steel. We will cover metallurgy, grain properties, annealing, heat treating of knives, and use differential hardening to temper our blades. The focus of this course is to learn and refine good technique in blacksmithing.

Students must wear closed toe shoes (preferably leather), long pants, and cotton clothing, and should bring a lunch.
